Nakuru rapist to serve 30years behind bars

A 26-year-old man from Nakuru will spend 30 years in jail for defiling his 12-year-old niece after being sentenced by Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Yvonne Khatambi.

She stated that the sentence was warranted since defilement cases have become common and rampant. She also considered that the accused was a first offender who is young and remorseful.

In her recommendations, Khathambi also considered a three-year probation. She added that the court noted with seriousness the offense was very serious and non custodial sentence was not going to serve justice to the minor whose life has been destroyed.

The man who pleaded innocent has fourteen days to appeal the sentence. The court found him guilty after prosecution produced nine witnesses who testified against him.

He was found to have defiled the little girl between 2017 and 2018 in Njoro, Nakuru County. The complainant also tested that she used to live with the rogue uncle and his grandmother in the same house.

She was defiled by her uncle several times and clinical records show that she was examined six months after the last ordeal.
