Police in Kirinyaga East are investigating the death of a 50-year-old man after his nephew allegedly attacked him during a domestic quarrel.
The victim, identified as Samuel Waweru Gacau, suffered deep cuts on the head, legs, and hands during the early morning attack on Wednesday, May 13.
Police said the incident happened at around 3 am after the victim’s brother heard screams coming from the house. Samuel reportedly cried for help, saying the suspect wanted to kill him.
The brother rushed to rescue him but found the suspect had locked himself inside the house with the victim. Police said the suspect continued attacking Samuel using a panga and a piece of wood.
Neighbours responded to the commotion and broke part of the mud-walled house to rescue the injured man.
Family members and neighbours rushed Samuel to Kianyaga Sub-County Hospital before doctors referred him to Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital. He later died while receiving treatment.
Police arrested the suspect and detained him at Kianyaga Police Station as investigations continue.
Officers recovered a panga and a piece of wood that detectives believe the suspect used during the attack. Detectives kept the items as evidence.
Police moved the body to the mortuary at Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital for a postmortem examination.
In another incident in Masaba South, Kisii County, police are investigating the death of 24-year-old Peter Gekonge Onchiri.
Residents at Nyamasibi Centre found him unconscious on Wednesday morning and rushed him to Nyamasibi Health Centre, where doctors confirmed his death.
Investigators said Peter was last seen drinking at Diaspora Pub on Tuesday night.
Police moved his body to Gucha Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
In Masaba North, Nyamira County, police also launched investigations after residents discovered the body of a 25-year-old woman along the Keroka-Kisii highway.
The victim, identified as Kwamboka Nyangaresi from Nyabiosi village in Kisii County, had a deep cut on the head and blood coming from her nose.
Police found her naked body with a red jumper covering her head. Detectives suspect the killers dumped the body at the scene after the murder.
Investigators moved the body to Gucha Hospital Mortuary as they continue searching for the killers.
Meanwhile, police in Siaya and Homa Bay counties are investigating two separate drowning incidents.
In Siaya County, a man washing clothes at River Wuoroya spotted the partially decomposed body of a woman floating in the water and raised the alarm.
In Homa Bay County, residents discovered the body of 59-year-old Charles Otieno in a pool of stagnant water in the Othoro area.
Police moved both bodies to mortuaries for identification and postmortem examinations.
