A local car dealership located along Jabavu Lane, Off Argwings Kodhek Rd, Nairobi Nairobi has been exposed for reportedly scamming its gullible clients.
Speaking via social media on Thursday 17th February 2022, a frustrated customer narrated how a simple vehicle purchase deal from a distributor named Newton’s Premium Autos turned into a tormenting 5-month ordeal.
According to the lady identified as “Miss Mwangi” on Twitter, despite signing a sales agreement in September 2021, the dealership was still yet to officially complete the vehicle transfer as required by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) before receiving the car.
By the end of last year, the push and pull between the two parties had escalated to the extent that agents at Newton’s Autos led by one Gee Muri stopped picking calls.
With all channels of communication blocked, the victims decided to seek legal help through a lawyer that served the fraudulent firm two demand letters; one formally written in December and another delivered via a phone call in January.
But up to date, the vehicle transfer is yet to be initiated by Newton’s Autos.
“We are normalizing giving reviews where you advertise. Buy your cars at Newton’s Autos at your own risk. They have great cars, good customer service agents but the moment that money hits their account you’re on your own.
So our company was looking to buy a car and I reach out to my guy Gee Muri because the reputation precedes him.
He sends photos and we choose the car and later we view the car. All this is happening in September 2021.
We visited the yard with our mechanic and he checked the car and we decided we were going to take it.
So we go to the office and do a sales agreement and the next day I went to pick up the car (Sep 9th).
The transfer was supposed to be done on that day but it was a Friday.
So we concluded that the transfer would be done later in the new week but ntsa was having issues so we decided to be patient.
A month later we started following up but the system was still down according to them. So we waited.
It got to a point where we decided we were going to ask for the logbook to show Atleast a little bit of ownership.
They sent the logbook over and we waited for the transfer. It didn’t happen. I was just following up.
It got to a point where they stopped picking calls.
So now we hired a lawyer who did a demand letter for them to complete the transfer which they never did.
The demand letter was served in December but since our office closes early we couldn’t follow up.
January came and we followed up with them and nothing was being done.
They stopped picking our calls and no further communication was done.
So we asked the lawyer to do a second demand letter which was done on call.
They didn’t honor it,” she explained in her Twitter thread.
From other online reviews seen by kenyanbulletin.com, it seems like Miss Mwangi is not the only victim of Newton’s Autos.
