Despite performing exceptionally well in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Nicole Arusei is yet to report to high school.

Arusei scored 422 marks in the national exams, which secured her a coveted spot at the Alliance Girls’ High School. The Form One Student did not report to school on Monday, February 6, as required by the ministry of education because her parents could not raise the required fees.

With each day she spends at home, she risks her slot at the institution to someone else and, with it, her dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon.

The only things Arusei’s family has been able to buy for her are a metal box, a bucket and some bedding.

Joyce Cherotich  said that Arusei schooled at Bishop Muge Memorial Primary, and she has another son in Grade Five.

According to the mum of two who lives in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, she worked as a househelp and is not in a position to raise Arusei’s fees.

The tuition fee needed for the bright girl is KSh 53,554 while the school uniform is KSh19,300, besides other experiences like transport and shopping.

Cherotich further pointed out that they have applied for at least three scholarships but missed them.
