Night Arrests under Matiang’i’s Reign

With the attempted arrest of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday night at his Karen residence, a section of leaders recounted how night arrests occurred during the Jubilee government era.

Sources claim elite police officers arrived and surrounded his Karen home in a bid to arrest him for unspecified reasons.

The Former CS said he had learnt of the planned raid earlier in the day.

He defended himself from any wrongdoing saying he left the government a clean man.

Former Jubilee MP Gideon Keter has gone down memory lane and recounted how Lawyer Miguna Muguna was arrested at night on February 2, 2018.

“I remember the day Fred Matiang’i was arresting senators at night. How he was so wrong to arrest Miguna Miguna at night, the list goes on and on… Wembe ni ule ule,” he said.

Miguna was arrested after police used force to break into his house after a brief standoff.

The arrest came a few days after he administered an oath to opposition leader Raila Odinga at Uhuru Park.

Wading into Matiang’i ‘s alleged attempted arrest, Miguna questioned Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni asking him where he was when he was being arrested in 2018.

“Where were you when Matiang’i & Co blew up my house, abducted me at night, detained and tortured me? Where were you when Matiang’i & Co disobeyed court orders, blocked me from entering Kenya for 5 years, sedated and dumped me unconscious in Dubai?” Miguna posed.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei who was also a victim recounted his experience on April 21, 2022.

According to police sources then, a warrant of arrest had been issued against the Senator following the alleged disturbance he caused in the court earlier this month.

“Matiang’i ordered my arrest at night on 21/4/22  and was detained at Capitol hill police station at 6 pm and later at Gigiri police station,” he said.

“Bado safari ni mbali, alambe glucose,” Cherargei added.

The Senator added that money laundering, abuse of office and corruption are punishable by law and that Opposition Chief Raila Odinga should know that.
