No Room For Azimio in ‘Cherera Four’ Investigations

Justice Aggrey Muchelule has declined a request by Azimio Coalition to be joined in the ‘Cherera Four’ hearings.

Muchelule, who is the chairperson of the tribunal, said the opposition outfit lacked avalid reasons to become part of the proceedings now after majority of witnesses have testified and only two are left to give their testimonies.

“We don’t find a basis has been made to introduce Azimio into these proceedings,” Justice Muchelule said.

The Raila Odinga led coalition wanted to join the hearings thrpough their lawyer, Danstan Omari, who argued that Azimio had been adversely mentioned in the proceedings and should be accorded a right of reply.

The tribunal is probing former IEBC Chairperson Juliana Cherera and her three coleagues, Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya and Francis Wanderi, over attempts to alter the 2022 presidential results.

Prof Abdi Guliye, a former commissioner with the  Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has recounted how the four dissenting commissioners used to “secretly” meet at Cherera’s office as he provided more damning details of events that preceded the declaration of Dr William Ruto as President-elect.

He also revealed that the former IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati, two other commissioners and chief executive officer Marjan Hussein Marjan were forced to go into hiding immediately after announcing the presidential results.
