President-Elect William Ruto has told Kenya Kwanza elected leaders they do not have time to waste and should kick off the delivery of their commitment to Kenyans.

Speaking at their inaugural meeting at his official Karen residence, Ruto said that Kenyans have already moved on from the election and leaders should follow suit.

“We don’t have the luxury of wasting any time. We need all hands-on deck; we’ll shortly settle down to getting Kenya working,” Ruto said.

“There were celebrations across Kenya after the results announcement; they immediately got down to their normal activities, sending a clear signal that they want us to take the country to another level.”

163 Kenya Kwanza MPs, 24 Senators, and eight Independents attended the meeting.

Ruto stated that there were two others who were not in the meeting but will join the Kenya Kwanza team.

He said that no part of Kenya should be left behind as the Kenya Kwanza has the mandate from all parts of Kenya.

He added that his government will ensure that Kenyans go on with their lives without intimidation.

“You can now go back to using your phones. You do not have to use WhatsApp for calls… you do not have to use Signal. I want to promise the people of Kenya that we are getting our democratic country back. Anyone can speak about anything to any person they want,” Ruto said.

Public servants will not be involved in politics and urged the politicians to establish their own political structures and allow civil servants to do their jobs.

“The provincial administration will not be available for politics. Right from the chiefs to the top, we will run a professional outfit to help deliver government programmes,” Ruto said.

Ruto also said that Kenya Kwanza will propose amendments to the Standing Orders so that Cabinet Secretaries can answer questions on the floor of the house.

He said that it was not enough for CSs to appear before Committees only and that they should answer questions directly from all Members of Parliament.
