The National Police Service has dismissed claims that officers serving in Nairobi region have been directed to dig into their pockets and secure the new uniforms.
In a statement on Wednesday, Police Spokesperson Charles Owino claimed all officers have been fully kitted with the new deep blue uniform that was introduced in late 2018.
Local dailies and blogs ran stories highlighting the plight of junior officers who cried foul after they were directed to buy and wear the new uniforms.
It was reported that the new Nairobi Regional Commander Rashid Yakub had directed the officers to make their own arrangements and secure the uniforms at their cost.
“We wish to state that since Nairobi area police Officers have been fully kitted with the deep blue working dress,” he said.
He further claimed that there are 6,000 male and 2,000 female officers’ uniforms that have not been collected at the central stores.
Initially Yakub had warned that no officer will be allowed to report to duty without the deep blue uniform as he made it clear that officers would not mix the new uniform with the old one.
