Nyamira woman caught on CCTV ‘stealing’ a baby arrested

Police officers in Nyamira have arrested a middle-aged woman who went missing after abducting a child from an unsuspecting mother.

She was positively identified by multiple people after CCTV footage of the abduction was aired on Citizen TV on Sunday.

After her arrest, the suspect said she had abducted the child in a bid to make up with her husband whom she separated with after a family feud.

Her young son had died without his father’s knowledge and after attempts to rekindle their love, her estranged husband demanded to see his son before they could re-unite as a family.

It is then that she embarked on a plan to save her marriage, hopping onto a Nyamira-bound bus from Nakuru after singling out an unsuspecting passenger.

The mother of the baby, Sheila Nyaboke says the suspect was very friendly on their journey to Nyamira and constantly offered to help cradle the seven-month-old child.

Upon their arrival in Nyamira, the suspect who was yet to reveal her name and other personal details offered to pet the infant as Ms Nyaboke relieved herself at a public bathroom.

It was at the lavatories that CCTV footage caught the woman dressed in an African-print dress fleeing with the baby.

Nyaboke who raised alarm after noticing that the woman had fled said the suspect had gone to a nearby shop to buy the young baby fruit juice.

The incidence comes just days after a 1-year-old boy was abducted at his parents home in Keroka by an unidentified woman.

The woman who is still at large visited the home and requested for a glass of water. The abductor and the infant were nowhere to be found when the child’s mother returned with a glass of water.
