John Muhia Methu, a 31-year-old without a big-name relative has found his way into the Senate following his election as the third Nyandarua Senator.

This was his second attempt to contest the Nyandarua senatorial seat, which he sought under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

He garnered 158,096 votes, beating seven other contestants, including incumbent Senator Mwangi Githiomi, who only got managed a meagre 18,244 votes.

Methu is now rolling up his sleeves to define his space in the political arena and as a young leader.

His interest in leadership and government grew way back when he was a Political Science student at the University of Nairobi.

His boldness caught many by surprise, including his very own parents.

Unlike other high-profile politicians in the region, Methu has earned plaudits for running a quiet, yet effective campaign that saw him traverse the vast county with minimal media presence.

He was instrumental in bringing together and strengthening the UDA wave in Nyandarua County.

Methu now focuses on redeeming the image of Nyandarua County, which he claims to be tainted by leadership wrangles within the Executive and the local County Assembly in the past two years.
