George Obama, Former United States President Obama’s Kenyan youngest half brother, lives in a small house in the slums of Huruma in Kenya, his story is not widely shared but is an interesting one.
George who goes as the president of the slums was raised by his mother and stepfather, a French aid worker, in a well-to-do suburb of Nairobi as “Homeland: An Extraordinary Story of Hope and Survival“- his memoir states.
Obama’s father died when George was six months old. After his mother and stepfather separated when he was fifteen, George became angry, rebellious, and troubled, his life crashed and burned. George dropped out of school and started drinking and smoking hashish, he even served 9 months in prison
During his life in crime, George discovered something wholly unexpected: “a vibrant community and a special affinity with the slum kids, whom he helped survive amid grinding poverty and despair.”
“George chose to live in the Nairobi ghetto, where he set up his own community group and works with others to help the ghetto-dwellers, and especially the slum kids, overcome the challenges surrounding their lives.” The memoir continues.
“My brother rose to be the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Here in Kenya, my aim is to be a leader amongst the poorest people on earth—those who live in the slums.” George says.
However, an article by the Daily Mail showed otherwise, in an article titled “Obama’s slumdog brother: Meet the hopeless drunk from a Nairobi shanty town who is the U.S. President’s BROTHER” journalists say what they met was a heavily intoxicated red-eyed heavy drinker.
“But, as I discovered, this may prove beyond George. Indeed, standing — let alone talking much sense or walking in a straight line — is tricky for the U.S. President’s brother much of the time, due to his chronic addiction to drink and years of drug abuse.” The DailyMail wrote
Having a brother who was once the head of the most powerful country in the world seems to have had no effect on George’s Life, but while people question why he receives no help from his brother, George maintains the inspiration he gets from the man is enough.
