Octogenarian kills man in Bondo

Police in Bondo, Siaya County, have launched investigations into the death of a 70-year-old man who was allegedly murdered by his neighbor over a land dispute at Nyang’oma village in Central Sakwa location on Thursday evening.

The body of the man, who has since been identified as John Okelo, was found along a pathway near his home after he was allegedly killed by his 80-year-old neighbor Jared Ochieng.

According to Bondo sub-county Police Commander Ibrahim Kosi, the matter was reported by the Assistant Chief of Nyang’oma sub-location Michael Osare who called the police to scene of the incident.

The police boss stated that even though the officers found no visible injuries on Mr. Okelo’s body, they were able to establish that they had fought over the protracted land dispute.

While confirming the ill-fated incident, Mr. Kosi said that the old man’s body was taken to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await postmortem as investigations begin into the matter.

The sub-county police boss also took the opportunity to caution members of the public against killing each other over land issues, noting that they need to seek the intervention of the government administration to settle their disputes.

He stated that there are very many avenues through which land disputes can be solved and so nobody should lose his or her life because of land.
