ODM Senator Explains Why He Met Ruto

The ODM members of Parliament who visited President William Ruto at the statehouse in Nairobi are under disciplinary process.

According to the party Chairman John Mbadi, by visiting the statehouse, members violated the party constitution by associating themselves with the leader of a competing party.

In response to the show cause letters, the members of Parliament have defended their decision to visit the head of state.

In his response, Kisumu senator professor Tom Ojienda defended his move saying that he went to the statehouse to discuss development with president Ruto.

In a letter addressed to ODM party chairman John Mbadi, Ojienda listed some of the issues that he raised with Ruto which include flood control and the construction of roads.

“In this case, I went to meet the President to further the developmental agendas for Kisumu County particularly; one, Flood control by the building of dykes in Kabonyo and Gem Rae Schemes, two, Completion of Kisumu-Mamboleo road, three, Establishment of Akado TVET and four, completion of Rabuor-Chiga Road”, Said ojienda.

He further said that he went to see Ruto as the president and not the party leader of the United democratic alliance ( UDA) saying there is no evidence that he went to UDA party offices.

However, by recognizing Ruto as the president of the Republic of Kenya in itself goes against the party position whereby Raila has asked all its supporters not to recognize Ruto as president.

Do you think Ojienda will evade the wrath of the party?  Share your thoughts and comments with us.
