Nairobi region led with the most murder cases filed in 2020-21, according to the ODPP Annual report of 2020-22.
The capital recorded 305 murder cases out of the total 1,460.
Nyanza region came second with 223 murders cases, Lower Eastern(220), South Rift(180), Western(154) and North Rift(147).
Central region recorded 120 murder cases, Coast had 85 while Northeastern had 25.
The report further revealed that during the reporting period, a total of 1,095 murder cases were concluded with 740 cases being convictions, 227 acquittals and 128 withdrawals.
Lower Eastern, Nyanza and South Rift regions recorded the highest numbers of murder cases concluded during the reporting period at 237, 206 and 147 respectively.
North Eastern, Central and Coast recorded the least number of murder cases concluded at 0, 46 and 77 respectively.
The Law Society of Kenya in April 2021 raised alarm over increased cases of insecurity, mysterious disappearances and brutal killings by criminals.
The latest incident at that moment was that of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation video editor, Betty Barasa who was brutally murdered in Oloolua, Kajiado North.
