Oguna says Uhuru security was not under any threat after man blocked presidential convoy

Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has come out to dismiss fears that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s security was under any kind of threat after a civilian obstructed the Head of State’s convoy at Lucky Summer area in Nairobi.

According to Oguna, the man was just an overzealous citizen who was excited to see President Kenyatta.

“On 26 May 2021, an individual stepped infront of the Presidential motorcade during the President’s tour at Lucky Summer, Nairobi County,” he stated.

“The individual is a citizen who was only excited to see the motorcade of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. We wish to allay any fears that the President’s security was under threat.”

A middle-aged man on Wednesday afternoon unexpectedly obstructed President Kenyatta’s motorcade in Lucky Summer.

The said man, in a now viral video captured by a resident, is seen moving towards the road as the President’s entourage finds its way out before the presidential escort officers pounce on him and drag him out of the way.

Nairobi County Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi earlier said the suspect is in custody and is being grilled to establish his motive.

The police chief however noted that the man could have taken the step out of excitement even as he challenged local leaders to sensitize their constituents against risky behavior.

President Kenyatta had gone to Lucky Summer area to launch a Ksh.300 million slaughterhouse owned by 3,000 livestock farmers in the country.
