Omari: Why Matiang’i Did Not Appear At DCI

Former Interior CS Fred Matiangi’s lawyer Danstan Omari says that his client did not appear at the DCI headquarter’s today because they had not been served with the alleged summons to appear for interogation.

Omari who spoke at the Milimani Law Courts, said the summon doing rounds on social media and mainstream media is not signed and has not been received by either Matiang’i or his lawyers.

“A proper summon must be signed and witnessed by police officers. Show me one where the police have signed the summons,” he said.

He further explained that when Matiang’i will only appear before DCI after being served personally as is required by law.

“Any narrative that he has denied to attend to the summons is hot air, show us the signed summons and the DCI must sign the summons,” he added.

Omari also stated that the orders extended yesterday do not stop the former CS from being investigated but the investigations must be done in line with the law.

“Show me the summons signed and Matiangi or his lawyer have put a sign the media was cheated to depict the CS has been summoned,” he says

A letter authored by detective Michael Sang had directed Matiang’i to appear before him at Mazingira House on Friday at 9.30 am without fail.

“I have reasons to believe that you, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the former Cabinet secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations,” detective Sang wrote.

Detective Michael Sang of the Serious Crime Unit summoned Matiang’i to appear before him to shed light on claims that his Karen home was raided by police officers a fortnight ago, a matter that was widely circulated in the media.
