Motorists within Nairobi’s Central Business District will have to dig deeper into their pockets as new parking charges take effect on Wednesday.

Tinega also added that motorists will need to top up the charges when moving to a zone with a higher rate.

Seasonal parking for private cars will also be effective with Sh7,000 for a month, Sh18,000 for three months, Sh32,000 for six months and Sh55,000 for a whole year.

Motorists will also be required to part with sh 1,000 for any lost ticket.

Controversial Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko assented the Nairobi City County Bill, 2019 in September after it sailed in the county assembly floor.

Kariobangi South- Uhuru ward MCA Robert Mbatia who sits in the county assembly Finance, Budget and Appropriation Committee commended the new rates but pointed that adjustments on parking rates should have been modest to minimize corruption at the collection level.

Mbatia also raised concerns over the delay to implement the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to decongest the CBD by giving city dwellers an alternative mode of transport.
