DP Ruto runs to clan elders for survival

Embattled Deputy President William Ruto has sought blessings from former Nandi supreme chief Koitalel arap Samoei’s clan amidst storms in the ruling Jubilee party.

The DP was crowned by the Talai clan and given a special baton as a sign of trust of his leadership by the Kalenjin community.

The brief event which was conducted by the respected clan in Kapsisiywa, Nandi county, began at 7am in morning with elders bestowing blessings upon the second in command.

They also clad him with traditional attire synonymous of his stature before they proceeded to hand over a symbolic leadership stick which the elders said would act as a guide in his future political aspirations.

According to sources who were present during the event, the DP traveled without his hawk eyed security officers and was said to have thanked the elders and assured them of great plans ahead for his political career.

The DP was accompanied by MPs Caleb Kositany (Soy), Wilson Kogo (Chesumei), Julius Melly (Tinderet), governors Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu) and his Nandi counterpart Stephen Sang.

The DP has in the recent past been the centre of focus following the removal of his main foot soldiers from the Senate and National Assembly leadership including crucial committees.

Those were kicked out from Senate leadership were Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Susan Kihika (Nakuru) and Samson Cherargei (Nandi).

In the National Assembly, his close lieutenants Benjamin Washiali and Cecily Mbarire were ousted as majority whip and deputy whip respectively.

Only Aden Duale, the majority leader in Parliament was spared after his intervention but his goose is cooking as Kieni MP Kanini Kega was collecting signatures ahead of his looming ouster.
