Residents of a slum in Gilgil are living in a shock after unknown people uprooted crosses from a nearby public cemetery and planted outside their houses.
The grim message shocked eight families who had the crosses planted around their homes in Kambi Somali slums.
“Currently the county government is in the process of demarcating the land and issuing title deeds and this could have triggered the action,” Ndambuki said.
A senior resident in the area, Mzee Joel Kuria said that they were not aware of the motives of those responsible for the act as he pointed at no dispute with thetargeted houses.
Kuria said however suspected rogue youths who had an intention of causing fear the residents.
“The crosses have been stolen from the public cemetery and were planted strategically outside the eight houses but a religious leader has prayed and sanitised the affected homes,” he added.
Resident who have stay in the slums for decades said this was the first act of that nature. Though shocked they said they will not cowed acts by people who may be possessed by evil spirits.
