Gor Mohia coach Steven Polack has criticised the move by Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clubs to trade players in the January transfer window.
Polack says he doesn’t understand how clubs can be active and spending heavy in the market when their current players are booked when other clubs are giving out walkovers due to financial problems.
“It is funny, shocking and hypocritical that KPL clubs are going through biting financial times and are also in the fore front of signing players, yet they don’t have money” Polack said.
He questions the source of transfer money when some of these clubs still owe players salary arrears. K’ogalo who are also facing the same crisis are yet to sign players but there is an array of hope as they are expected to unveil a new sponsor before the end of January.
Many clubs in KPL have been going through tough financial times since the betting firm, Sportpesa, closed its shops in Kenya last august. Sportpesa was the major league sponsor.
Their rivals AFC Leopard have already lost six players some of them foreigners to rival teams. Kogalo were also sponsored by the same gaming firm.
Clubs like Sony Sugar have been forced to hand walkovers to opponents in both home and away matches due to unpaid salaries to players and even some of the coaching staff.
