Political Temperatures Rise In KIBRA
Former and Late Kibra MP Ken Okoth

Political temperatures are rising in Nairobi’s Kibra Constituency as various aspirants prepare to contest for the area parliamentary seat which fell vacant following the death of MP Ken Okoth.

Over 20 ODM Party aspirants from Kibra constituency have already expressed interest in the seat, the clearest indication that battle lines are about to be drawn.

The aspirants on Sunday convened a meeting at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra to chart a way forward on how to win the seat amid speculation that the ODM party could impose a candidate on the electorates.

The group has vowed to reject any such attempt by the ODM Party, insisting that the preferred candidate should be a resident of Kibra constituency.

The ODM party National Executive Council (NEC) is expected to convene a meeting next week to come up with a strategy on how the party candidate will be picked.

Last week, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi declared the Kibra Parliamentary seat vacant paving way for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to set a date for the by-election.

The IEBC is required to prepare for a by-election within three months of the issuance of the notice by the Speaker.

The late Kibra MP Ken Okoth died at The Nairobi Hospital on Friday, July 26 after a long battle with colon cancer.
