Property worth thousands of shillings yesterday evening went up in flames when a fire incident razed down Nyamasaria Market in Kisumu County.

Approximately 15 stalls were burnt to ashes in the fire incident that started at around 4.:30pm.

Erick Oketch a victim of the fire told Ghetto Radio news that the fire first started at one shop before it spread to the other shops.

It is alleged that the fire razes down approximately 15 stalls burning into ashes all goods.

“The fire started in one of the shops and spread to the rest. Approximately 15 stalls got burnt, and everything in those stalls got burnt. The items include fridges from nearby Coca-Cola depot,” said Oketch.

Oketch says that some youth used the incident to loot from the shops.

“In the process as the fire was razing down these shops, some youths used the incident as opportunity to loot for Nyamasaria Traders,” he added.

Kisumu fire brigade officers arrived at the scene one hour later after everything had burnt down.

The traders are now appealing to the County Government of Kisumu to install fire brigade in at least all Estates to help in such incidents.
