The Public Service Commission (PSC) has scaled down operations after some of its staffers tested positive to Covid-19. At least 10 staff members at the Commission House, Nairobi, tested positive after a mass testing conducted on July 1, 2020.
PSC has directed all employees to self-quarantine for 14 days on July 13 up to July 24. During the same period of time, access to the PSC offices will be restricted. Offices will be fumigated to eliminate possible contamination.
“In this regard, all staff and interns will be required to proceed on self-isolation at home. During this period, access to commission offices will be restricted except where there is prior clearance by the Secretary and CEO,” read the memo dated July 10.
Number of covid-19 cases in Kenya have continued to grow. Other state departments including Ardhi House closed for two weeks in June. Survey of Kenya also closed in line with the President and Health ministries directives to curb further spread.
Officials attribute the current trend to high human traffic within the ministry premises that may have contaminated the environment and surfaces.
In April, lawyers protested health ministry’s decision to close its offices, claiming the move had affected several land transactions.
Elsewhere more than 40 health workers from the Pumwani Maternity Hospital have also tested positive for the coronavirus, Acting Health Director General Patrick Amoth has confirmed.
Dr. Amoth said that 41 healthcare workers from Pumwani tested positive from 290 samples but the remaining 100 staff members will also be tested.
