A fresh political disagreement has emerged within ODM after Raila Odinga’s son, Raila Odinga Jr., publicly called out Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and accused him of disrespecting the Odinga family.

Raila Jr spoke during a public event where he criticized leaders he claimed were dragging his family into political battles inside the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He urged party leaders to stop using the Odinga name in internal disputes and instead focus on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.

The remarks followed recent tensions between Mbadi and Winnie Odinga, Raila Odinga’s daughter. Winnie had criticized the government over the rising cost of living and increasing fuel prices, comments that sparked responses from several leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Mbadi later defended his political record and experience, saying he had served ODM loyally for many years and earned his leadership position through hard work and commitment to the party.

In his response, Raila Jr expressed frustration over what he described as repeated attacks targeting his family. He questioned why some leaders continued bringing the Odinga family into political arguments while ignoring the bigger challenges facing Kenyans.

He also called on leaders to respect his family and avoid personal attacks that could deepen divisions within ODM.

The public exchange has attracted attention among ODM supporters and political observers, with many seeing it as a sign of growing internal tensions ahead of the 2027 general election.

So far, Mbadi has not publicly responded to Raila Jr’s latest remarks.
