Azimio Leader Raila Odinga on Saturday, March 4, revealed a new tact that he will employ to mount pressure on President William Ruto’s government.
Whereas in the past the coalition’s top leadership was tasked with organizing mass rallies, the responsibility was shifted to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) county officials.
Raila made the announcement in Kisumu County where he was attending the burial of Luo Council of Elders Chairman Willis Opiyo.
ODM officials at county levels will ensure that the whole country partakes in the mass rallies according to the opposition chief.
He further revealed that he will give a new direction on the route of mass rallies on Wednesday, March 8, when his 14-day ultimatum to Ruto elapses.
“The was a dispute about the outcome of the August 9, 2022, general elections and we went to Supreme Court to challenge that.
“Unfortunately, the courts were not truthful but now we know the truth on how the elections were bungled,” Raila told the mourners.
To address that, the ODM party leader directed the party’s county officials to mobilize supporters across the country as they wait for his signal on March 8.
“In four days, I will tell you the way forward. I will come and tell you the route that we will take.
“We cannot go to 2027 general elections with the current Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC),” he revealed one of the agendas of the mass rally.
The former Prime Minister further announced that there will be a march to State House, Nairobi to pressure the government to lower the cost of living.
ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya in support of Raila remarked, “I want to assure Raila that we are fully behind him and will go the route he will show us.”
Siaya Governor James Orengo reaffirmed Oparanya’s words and faulted Ruto for what he termed as fake promises.
“He lied to us that once he gets sworn in he would lower the cost of living, but the situation has only got worse,” he castigated the Head of State.
