The Azimio coalition has accused the US and its Western allies of aiding electoral fraud in Kenya and of double standards on democracy in Africa.
This follows US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman’s declaration that the August 2017 election was the most transparent in Kenya’s history, which Azimio leaders disputed.
“This sends a very bad signal… and once the leader they support gets power, they seem to make decisions that are favourable to the Western powers,” Osotsi said.
Azimio leader and presidential candidate Raila Odinga has demanded that the servers holding the results of the presidential elections be opened for scrutiny.
“Kenya has made a remarkable statement to Africa and the world about its democracy and the character of that democracy. Don’t let anybody besmirch that,”
“Some of them just have big names but have nothing to offer on matters of observing the elections,” James Orengo, who led Raila’s legal team in the historic case, told off the observers.
“They can do what they want to do or say whatever they want but they should not tell us to go to court because it is not our option.” Kerry had said.
The coalition has also opposed the lifting of the ban on the importation and distribution of genetically modified products, accusing the Ruto administration of working against Kenya’s interests.
However, government insiders have dismissed the allegations and accused Raila of being a sore loser who is looking for a scapegoat in the US.
