One month after its grand opening, the Ksh 16 million Mother and Child Complex at Ratta Health Centre in Kisumu County is receiving praise from residents and local leaders alike for greatly improving healthcare services in the region.

The facility, built by the M-PESA Foundation, was officially commissioned in April and is set to benefit over 10,000 people.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa handed over the complex to the county government in a well-attended ceremony. The facility opened in April and has quickly become an essential part of the community.

The new complex includes a maternal, child, and neonatal unit, along with refurbished labor, delivery, and post-natal rooms.

It also features a nurse station, a waiting bay with a children’s play area, two consultants’ rooms, a child welfare clinic room, a pharmacy with a store, and a family planning room.

This state-of-the-art facility provides a conducive environment for mothers to deliver and enables the health center to offer better services to more women.

Apart from maternity care, the complex offers outpatient care, comprehensive clinic care, and laboratory services.

It has been praised for its comprehensive services and positive impact on the community.

Health Executive Gregory Ganda expressed his satisfaction with the new unit, saying, “I had the pleasure of visiting the Ratta Maternal and Child Health Unit. This is an incredible new wing. A big thank you to M-PESA Foundation for their invaluable partnership and investment in the Kisumu health space. Your support will make a real difference in our community.”

The groundbreaking project included not only the construction of the new units but also the renovation of existing facilities.

The investment covers medical equipment to standardize each room and the planting of 100 tree seedlings to promote environmental conservation.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, who handed over the facility, affirmed the company’s commitment to improving lives.

“At Safaricom, our purpose is transforming lives, and through these interventions, we are taking healthcare closer to the people. The M-PESA Foundation will continue partnering with counties to enhance service delivery, focusing on maternal and child health,” said Ndegwa.

The new maternal unit provides essential services, including outpatient care, maternity care, comprehensive clinic care, immunizations for children, and laboratory services. It is expected to serve over 10,000 people and greatly improve health outcomes in the area.

The mother-and-child unit offers exclusive services to mothers and their babies, helping to reduce the high infant mortality rate in the area.

The facility serves beyond Seme Sub-County, and the community is thankful for the state-of-the-art facility and the positive changes it has brought in just one month.
