Revealed: Wanted Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani has been in the country for over one week now

Wanted Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani is in Kenya and he is said to have quietly crept back into the country via Tanzania.

According to the a popular news platform, Punjani made his way back to his Nyali residence, adding that he had been maintaining a low profile in the mansion for over a week.

The billionaire reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to a Nation journalist, where he claimed to be a free man, living without any fear of arrest.

“I am currently in Mombasa, I have been in Mombasa town for one week and as you can see, I am reading today’s paper in my house,” read his WhatsApp message.

More reports stated that he also shared a selfie in which he could be seen reading a Daily Nation newspaper dated September 16, from his Nyali home.

Mystery surrounds the tycoon’s case, with the new Mombasa County Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi seemingly distancing himself from reports that Punjani was to be arrested.

“I am not privy to what was happening. You can ask those who were around,” Mr Nthumbi announced.

This is in stark contrast to his predecessor, Johnston Ipara, who declared that the Mombasa billionaire was wanted in connection with drug trafficking allegations and that he would be arrested the moment set foot on Kenyan soil.

“We will arrest him the minute he gets into the country. We want him to come and explain to us where he got all his wealth. We got a lot of cheques, title deeds and more than Ksh 63,000 from his house during our crackdown,” the former Mombasa Police boss who has since been transferred to Uasin Gishu stated back in August 2019.

The reports he had sneaked into the country through the neighbouring country were widely circulated across social media platforms.
