President William Ruto on Monday offered to pay Sh1 million rent for a trader in Nakuru.
While speaking during the launch of affordable housing project, Ruto said he will offset Sh1 million of the Sh3.5 million for the house.
“I will pay Ksh1 million and you continue with the rest so that it will decrease and you can move into the house,” Ruto said.
The trader, Shinde Shariff, said that she resolved to pay for the house monthly and so far she has been able to pay for 11 months.
Ruto lauded her for the commitment to pay for the house to secure it as her own over time.
Shariff said were it not for paying for the house in bits she could not have afforded it.
“I did not have the capacity but I rushed to purchase one of the houses. At the moment, I have paid for 11 months. I’m still remaining a few months before I own the house,” she said.
Shariff hawks clothes in Nakuru.
Ruto was in Nakuru for a two day visit which saw him inspect the ongoing Bondeni affordable housing project.
The units are being constructed under a public-private partnership agreement.
