Ruto raps Raila for meddling with IEBC affairs

Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has rapped off the Opposition leader Raila Odinga who is arguing with the IEBC over the amount to be spent in conducting the BBI referendum.

The electoral body in its estimates is claiming that the country will need blow Sh.14 billion to conduct the exercise. Odinga does not agree with that figure, he wants the proposals that will see also the disbandment of IEBC adopted at a cost of Sh2 billion.

The Deputy President who spoke on Friday reminded the ODM leader to leave IEBC to run its businesses. It is an independent institutions.

“Leave IEBC alone because even the previous referendum cost us about Sh10 billion with 12 million voters. How do you then expect to spend Sh2 billion on a referendum with 19 million voters?” Ruto asked.

The country’s second in command who is likely to face off with Odinga in 2022 had recently announced that he is even comfortable with his [Odinga] leading the IEBC.

“Whoever the chairman will be it will not matter and this they should take it to the bank,” he said.

Ruto spoke at General Kago stadium in Kangema, Murang’a county where he was gifting boda boda operators.

He lashed at Odinga who has been struggling to poke holes on his ‘hustler narrative’ claiming the movement is now setting the agenda for discussion.

“It is my joy that through this movement we are going to change the narrative. It has always been the rich against the poor where they want to create positions for themselves but going forward we must bring boda boda, wheelbarrow and mkokoteni in that debate,” Ruto said.

He faulted the BBI crafters for ignoring the empowerment of the ordinary citizens instead of expanding the executive.

“Those speaking ill about me let them be reminded that I know what I am doing…I am not a fool or a drunkard, the BBI debate must go hand in hand with our big four agenda,” he said.

Ruto added that the BBI debate must include all leaders till they come to a consensus.

“Some people want to bring hatred in the whole debate, if they want politics they should wait for  2022 and of course they should be well prepared,” Ruto said.
