Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege is currently admitted at the Nairobi Hospital, her lawyers have revealed.
The news comes on the same day the vocal legislator known to selflessly defend President Uhuru Kenyatta was set to appear before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) committee for the full hearing of her electoral malpractices case.
But according to her lawyers Otiende Amollo and James Orengo, Sabina could not honour her summons to the commission’s Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee on Tuesday, February 22, since she is currently slightly unwell.
“The respondent (Woman Rep. Sabina Chege) is not in attendance today as she is indisposed was admitted to Nairobi Hospital on the 16tth of February 2022” Otiende Amollo disclosed.

Consequently, Chege has filed a petition before the High Court sitting in Nairobi asking the court to block the electoral body from proceeding with their hearing and further inquiry into the matter.
In her court documents, she says that IEBC has no grounds to hear the matter since she has not submitted any papers indicating she will vie or declared her candidature.
She claims that her prosecution before was commenced in bad faith and rushed to embarrass and tarnish her name.
Sabina further notes that IEBC does not have relevant material as required by the law and that the commission has a predetermined verdict to block her from participating in the August 9 election in the event she decides to vie.
