Sacked IPSL CEO Agnes Gathaiya saved by Google

Former Integrated Payments Services Limited (IPSL) CEO Agnes Gathaiya was under pressure to explain why she should not be fired after the company made huge fall in profits due to her decision to waive fees for all transactions done on the bank to bank money transfer service, PesaLink, after the country entered a dark COVID-19 pandemic period.

In April, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) announced that firms running mobile money payments services waived fees for transactions under Sh1000. Agnes in her mismanagement skills announced more.

The appointment as Country Director for Google East Africa saved her professional life as she was about to face the sack.

IPSL appointed a new board last month, this was seen as a way to revamp the firm.

Though the failed former Safaricom staff has left, she did more damage, the penchant to steal ideas as is characteristic of all female “IT Gurus’ that come from Safaricom was with her.

She would soon still a FinTech copyright and patents that would end up as a lawsuit in court.

Her accolades and appointment are bought due to the closeness with one former Google boss and current ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.
