Liverpool and Senegal talisman Sadio Mane is expected to become the first African footballer to headline 2020 when he is named the best player of the year.
The award ceremony is scheduled for January 7th at the Red sea Resort in Egypt.
If he wins the award, Mane will be the second player from his country to win the award after Retired El Hajji Diouf.
The much anticipated event wills et pace for African soccer with 2021 Africa Cup of Nation qualifiers in the mix and 2022 World Cup.
Mane is rivaled by his Liverpool teammate Mohammed Salah who hails from Egypt. Salah has won the award the award two times but he is currently out of ‘form’ with rumours that he wants to leave An field.
Algerian and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez is also listed but not favorite to win. City is currently fourth on the log with dimming chances of lifting EPL trophy this season.
The winner of the player of the year award and winners from other seven categories, both male and female will be announced at event.
