As of August 12, 2024, Safaricom surpassed 1,000 5G sites, establishing an extensive network that spans all 47 counties and encompasses 14% of the population.

This extensive network upgrade represents a major leap forward in providing fast, reliable internet access throughout the country.

With a total of 1,114 5G sites operational across 102 towns, Safaricom is delivering high-speed internet to a broader audience, including both urban and rural areas.

The growth of the 5G network is reflected in the rise of active 5G smartphones, which now exceed 780,000.

Since launching its 5G services in October 2022, Safaricom has worked relentlessly to expand its network.

This expansion includes integrating solutions for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, enhancing cybersecurity measures, optimizing cloud services and improving payment systems.

These efforts are designed to support businesses by increasing operational efficiency and fostering new innovations.

Looking ahead, Safaricom aspires to become the leading purpose-driven technology provider in Africa by 2030.

The company views 5G as a key driver for future technological advancements, including immersive experiences, gaming, smart warehousing, telemedicine, and smart irrigation.

To meet the growing demand for 5G services, Safaricom offers a variety of data bundles and Wi-Fi packages tailored to different needs. These can be accessed through the MySafaricom App, Safaricom.com, or USSD code *544#. Customers can also connect to 5G Wi-Fi via the MySafaricom App, USSD code *400#, or by visiting their nearest Safaricom store.

Safaricom’s ongoing investment in its network infrastructure has delivered extensive coverage, with 97% of Kenya’s population served by its 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
