Safaricom and Lewa Celebrate 25 Years of Transformation

Safaricom has marked 25 years of collaboration with Lewa Conservancy, a partnership that has seen a lasting impact on conservation, healthcare, and education.

In this milestone year, Safaricom has pledged an additional Ksh 25 million to further the progress that has been made in these areas.

The healthcare program, which reaches over 40,000 people each year across more than 10 clinics, continues to provide crucial services, including mental health and wellness support, to even larger communities.

In addition to healthcare, Lewa’s conservation efforts are also proving effective, with over 33 rhino calves born, more than 20,000 wildlife crossings recorded (including 7,500 elephants), and 494 bird species thriving in the conservancy.

Lewa is now recognized as part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, cementing its role in global conservation efforts.

Lewa’s education program is similarly impactful, with 27,000 students receiving bursaries and more than 6,000 students benefiting from Lewa’s own educational initiatives.

Digital tools and scholarships are also being rolled out to support and empower future generations of learners.

One such school, Rugusu Primary, is one of 23 institutions funded through the marathon, and it offers a glimpse of how education is transforming lives in the area.

The Lewa Safari Marathon has proven to be more than just a race — it’s a catalyst for positive change.

As participants prepare for this year’s marathon on June 28th, the focus remains on the wider purpose of improving lives and creating lasting change.

The race has allowed organizers and the community to see firsthand how their efforts are transforming the lives of many.
