Safaricom Crushes False Claims About Starlink Payments
Safaricom addresses recent rumours about Starlink payments, confirming that the M-Pesa payment option remains active and urging users to reach out with any issues.

Responding to a tweet alleging the termination of this payment method, Safaricom assured users that the option remains available and encouraged anyone facing difficulties to get in touch.

Starlink, which entered the Kenyan market in July 2023 and is owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has emerged as a significant competitor to local internet providers like Safaricom.

The rivalry has intensified following recent discounted offers from Starlink.

On Wednesday, an X user claimed in a tweet that Safaricom had halted M-Pesa payments for Starlink Internet.

Safaricom quickly responded, stating, “This isn’t factual. The option is still there. Please reach out to us in case of any challenges faced.”

Starlink, known for its high-speed internet and extensive coverage, especially in remote areas, uses a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit to deliver fast and reliable connectivity.

This service is particularly beneficial for regions where traditional internet providers may not extend their reach.

Recently, Starlink introduced a rental option for its equipment, available for KSh 1,950 per month, with the purchase price set at KSh 45,500.

This new offering has spurred competition among internet service providers in Kenya, including Safaricom.

Amid this heightened competition, Safaricom continues to set the benchmark for service reliability and customer satisfaction.

While Starlink’s equipment rental is available for KSh 1,950 per month and the purchase price is KSh 45,500, Safaricom has made a bold move by reducing its internet prices.

The company now offers its fiber bundle at KSh 5,500 per month, down from KSh 6,800, providing a more affordable option for high-speed internet.

Safaricom has also reaffirmed that its payment options for Starlink services through M-Pesa remain fully operational.

This proactive approach not only highlights Safaricom’s commitment to delivering exceptional value but also ensures that customers benefit from competitive pricing and seamless service amidst the growing market rivalry.
