Safaricom recently waived M-Pesa transaction costs for transactions up to Ksh1,000 after a presidential directive in the firms’ recommended efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus.

“The meeting followed a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to explore ways of deepening mobile money usage to reduce the risk of spreading the virus through physical handling of cash,” said Michael Joseph, Safaricom’s Chief Executive.
