A 12-member Senate committee appointed to broker a deal over the disputed revenue sharing formula among counties has announced a breakthrough after a week long negotiations.
The team led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi) did not announce the formula they settled on, however, Wetang’ula promised that the contents of the report will be made public by the House leadership.
“We have made tremendous progress. We are making the final bend. Tomorrow we shall present our formula inform of a report to the House leadership led by speaker Kenneth Lusaka,”he said.
He promised that the formula will end the impasse which has caused an uproar.
“We have had in-depth long winding deliberations trying to give the country a formula of sharing revenue among counties,” Wetang’ula said.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja said they considered all the proposals presented to the panel by various senators , commission on revenue allocation and the National Treasury.
The speaker shall gazette a special sitting of the Senate to approve the formula after the house leadership agrees with it.
