Chief Justice Salary: The Judicial Service Commission on Tuesday announced that it had nominated Lady Justice Martha Koome as the next Chief Justice. A day later, President Uhuru Kenyatta forwarded her name to parliament for vetting and approval. The approval is set to sail through smoothly, and in any given instance, Lady Justice Koome will make history as Kenya’s first ever woman Chief Justice.
She will take over from retired Chief Justice who was famed for his regular confrontations with the presidency.
In her new role, Lady Justice Koome will be taking home one of the fattest salaries in the public service. She will earn a monthly salary of Sh. 990,000. This salary will be topped up with huge allowances that could be as high as Sh. 300,000 to take her earnings to about Sh. 1.3 million per month.

In addition to this, the Chief Justice will be entitled to Sh. 10 million inpatient insurance scheme with an outpatient cover of Sh. 300,000.

She will also get either a top of the range Land Cruiser 200 Series, locally popular as V8, and, or a Mercedes Benz E or S class. Should she sit in the JSC meetings which will be inevitable, Justice Koome will additional allowances on top of her Chief Justice salary and allowances. Currently, each of the JSC members earns between Sh. 150,000 and Sh. 250,000. This is considered as a responsibility allowance. She will b entitled to an allowance of Sh. 20,000 to Sh. 25,000 each per JSC sitting for disciplinary cases and recruitment purposes.
