Signatures for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) drive have hit 1.5 million four days after the launch, the secretariat said on Monday.
According to the co-chairpersons of the secretariat Dennis Waweru and Junet Mohamed, Kenyans have welcomed the Bill with a lot of enthusiasm.
“…we have every reason to believe that we will surpass two million by the end of today (Monday). We therefore project that we will be done with the exercise by end of the week and move to the next step,” said in a statement.
They appealed to young Kenyans to continue turning out in large numbers to participate in what they term a ‘historic’ exercise.
The duo further urged ‘hardliners’ to read the document insisting that it is not about President Uhuru Kenyatta or ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On Sunday, Nominated MP Maina Kamanda launched the signature collection exercise in Kibra constituency.
In Kiambu County, Governor James Nyoro launched the collection of signatures towards the BBI report.
He said they will deploy ward representatives to collect the signature from the villages to ensure the populous county clocks a million signatures
In Nyeri County, divisions rocked the process with a split among the leadership over the exercise.
A section of leaders demanded for more representative seats in the county to back the process.
