Senator Lelegwe vows to remain firm in rejecting the disputed revenue formula

Samburu County Senator Steve Lelegwe has vowed to remain firm in his stand over the disputed revenue sharing formula. He spoke on Tuesday after presenting himself at the Maralal police station for interrogation by DCI detectives over cattle rustling in his county.

Lelegwe had been interrogated for nearly an hour on monday over incitements before he was released and directed to report back on Tuesday 10am.

“I don’t know why they want me to confirm livestock that have been stolen instead they should be the one to confirm and explain to Samburu people why we are losing livestock, government officers, lives and property,” Lelegwe said.

The senator has promised to remain  firm on his decision in his stand to ensure that his county does not lose money through the proposed revenue sharing formula during his tenure.

“Samburu County should receive its fair share of revenue from the national government. I have voted for what I think is right and I will still vote for what is right,” Lelegwe said.

The lawmaker promised to remain part of constructive engagements in the house as he defends of the interests of country.

“I will stand to protect counties, Samburu people elected me to the senate to protect counties of Kenya while in senate through constructive engagements like the third generation formula,” Lelegwe said.

On monday DCI detectives arrested Senators Steven Lelegwe of Samburu, Cleophas Malala (Kakamega) and  Christopher Lang’at (Bomet)  under unclear circumstances that pundits blame on the disputed revenue sharing bill before the senate.

Senators deemed as opponents of the controversial formular were arrested in Nairobi and transported back to their counties to record statement on the allegations.

Kakamega Senator has since been released and charges dropped.

Both Mr Malala and Dr Lang’at had their homes surrounded in the wee hours of Monday morning, while Mr Lelegwe was arrested on his way to Parliament.
