9 Al-Shabaab Operatives Killed, 11 Wounded in Lower Juba Region, Somalia
Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that at least nine (9) Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab operatives were killed in joint security forces operations in Lower Juba region of Somalia.
During the operation, Danab fores supported by Jubaland forces managed to take control of several areas in Lower Juba, including Janaale, Reernero, Bandar Jadid along the river and Bengal about 37 km from Kamsuma.
Corresponding open sources reported citing army officials confirmed of the raid saying the operation was aimed to attack the militias and capture their positions in the Lower Juba region.
The 5th Brigade Commander of the 16th Battalion of the Danab forces, Hassan Adan Mohamed confirmed to media that the joint forces killed 9 Al-Shabaab fighters and wounded 11 others.
During the operation, troops recovered weapons, removed and defused nine underground grenades along the roads which were targeting the army’s vehicles passing the road.
The commander noted that the operation has been ongoing for the last few weeks and will continue to operate until Al-Shabaab is pushed out of the Juba regions of Somalia.
