Shocking State At Busia Referral Hospital Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

As County governments set up budgets and teams to institute tough measures aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus, Busia referral hospital is in a shocking state.

Not even a week has passed since the governor to Busia, Sospeter Ojaamong’ said his county government has set aside Sh55 million for the health facilities in the area.

Patients are sleeping on cold floors, without the name the institution looks like a crack den. Absolutely zero measures are being taken to keep sick Kenyans at the hospital safe and should anyone contract the Coronavirus it would be disastrous.

Walking into the hospital’s ward 5 and there is no screening for the virus, no temperature checks, there is no offer to sanitize or wash hands, just dozens of sick people sleeping on mattresses laid down on the floors, same case for the corridors.

Busia is among counties put on red alert due to its position on the border between Kenya and Uganda. Visitors from Rwanda, Southern Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda enter the country through Busia and Malaba borders.

Busia ward representatives recently summoned the county executives for health to shed light on the county’s preparedness on coronavirus, what was discussed and did the sad state of such a big hospital in the region get any attention?

Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, who doubles up as the county health executive should come out and clear the air. This virus is not a joke having claimed over 6,000 lives, is this the level of preparedness President Kenyatta was commending?
