More than 1,000 young people in Mombasa have graduated from a transformative two-day skills and empowerment bootcamp hosted by Safaricom under its youth-focused platform, Safaricom Hook.
Held at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic on May 28–29, the Hook Circle Bootcamp brought together students, creatives, and informal workers for immersive sessions in financial literacy, data safety, technology, hospitality, and the creative arts.

The initiative, now in its third edition, continues to grow its national footprint following previous activations at Chuka and Kenyatta universities.
“Our aim with Hook Circle is to meet young people where they are, equipping them with skills that are both relevant and empowering,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC.
“From tech to cultural expression, we want youth to explore possibilities that can turn into real careers.”
Participants attended expert-led workshops in fashion, makeup, culinary arts, filmmaking, and digital innovation, gaining exposure to careers that blend creativity with entrepreneurship. The program culminated in a graduation ceremony where students were recognized for completing their respective tracks.
One standout moment came when Halua, a fashion design student, received a surprise gift — a sewing machine — from Safaricom.
“It’s such a blessing. I now have the tools to grow my skills and keep up with my schoolwork. I’ve also learned how to manage money better, which is something I struggled with before,” she said.
The bootcamp also extended its reach to over 250 boda boda and tuk tuk operators, who participated in sessions on mental health, first aid, road safety, and financial planning—a reflection of Safaricom’s commitment to holistic empowerment, not just academic or tech-focused.
Safaricom Hook targets young Kenyans aged 10 to 24, who can register via the Safaricom App or by dialing *555#.
