Former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho is secretly employing every desperate move to mend fences with President William Ruto as the future of his political godfather Mzee Raila Odinga gets dimmer.
Joho is relying on the newfound love between Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir and President Ruto as part of his strategy to secure a political comeback in 2027 when he plans to vie for Mombasa senatorial seat.
He recently resigned as deputy leader of Odinga’s ODM party for fear of victimization by the president whom he admonished in the strongest terms possible in the run up to August 9 2022 general elections.
ODM supporters are already questioning Joho’s loud silence and absence from various events including those graced by Odinga in Mombasa.
The flashy politician groomed Governor Nassir as his successor in attempts to remotely control the affairs of Mombasa County but the new governor has moved to bed with Ruto, forcing the loud mouth Joho to swallow pride and boot-lick the regime of the day.
Joho’s elder brother, Abu Joho, has also reached out to President Ruto and instructed the former governor to keep off national politics and lay low in Dubai where he can run other family businesses as he sorts out his mess.
The move to mend fences with President Ruto comes barely a month after their tainted firm, Autoport Freights Terminal, bagged a lucrative deal to handle all imports destined to South Sudan.
The deal was thrust into the limelight after the Supreme Court of Kenya upheld Ruto’s victory in last year’s general elections against his challenger Raila Odinga.
But Joho has been a stressed man since August 2022 election where he wasted millions in funding the campaigns of Raila Odinga, the 78 year old opposition vet who lost presidency to William Ruto.
