The stadium located in the suburbs of Chuka town will be the first of its kind in the region and is expected to spur sports activities in the County as well as delocalize international sports from Nairobi to devolved units.
It will be one of the seven mini stadiums of the government manifesto to be completed and it is expected to serve the residents of Tharaka Nithi and surrounding counties.

The Governor commended the work done by the National Government and Sports Kenya team, saying he is now satisfied with the work done and is ready to hand over for the official commissioning of the facility.
“I am very pleased to note that the workmanship from the grass to the terrace is very good. We have a total of three gates that are well placed for the anticipated crowd and will be convenient for movement in and out of the stadium, I am hopeful in the next few days this project will be finished,” said the Governor.
Njuki assured that the County Government will adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between them and the National Government to ensure the facility is well maintained once in use.
The County Commissioner, Beverly Opwora, said that they are pleased as a Committee-In-Charge of different government development projects with the stadium, adding that the county will be capable of hosting school games and regional meetings comfortably.
“We meet here weekly in the stadium so we can fast-track the progress of the facility, as a member of the committee in charge, I am satisfied with the progress made so far, we have inspected the rooms and the grass and we can tell the stadium is now 85 to 90 per cent completed,” said the County Commissioner.
Gabriel Komora speaking on behalf of Sports Kenya chairman Fred Muteti, said that the only thing remaining is correction of a few defects that have been detected after which they will alert the CS to inspect the facility before it opens.
Once completed, the stadium will have a football pitch, a rugby pitch, an athletics track, a volleyball court and a basketball court.
