The dirty tycoons that made America reject Odinga presidency

Kenya’s veteran opposition politician Raila Odinga accused the West of abandoning him during his fifth attempt to become the country’s president. Odinga who lost to William Ruto in the August 9 general elections disclosed that America conspired against him and planted the latter to serve the interests of of foreign powers and not Kenya.

Odinga made the startling remarks a day after Ruto’s administration lifted ban on the importation of genetically modified maize to address the worsening famine in the country. Similar accusations were also made by his  daughter, Winnie Odinga, who claimed that Western powers influenced the outcome of the August 9 presidential election which Ruto won.

But fresh details have emerged showing that the United States of America led the West in rejecting Raila Odinga’s bid for presidency after he became a hostage of dirty businessmen, mostly drug dealers and despotic families of Kenyatta and Moi.

Raila used to be a darling of the West but he lost the links over his association with blacklisted drug barons, some with arrest warrant hanging over their heads in US and other powerful European countries.

America could not entertain him because it is facing existential threat from drugs addiction from bottom to top and has zero tolerance for drug dealers, US can even invades sovereign countries hosting drug barons to flash them out and have them extradited to serve jail terms.

Odinga became America’s marked man after the infamous March 9 2018 handshake between him and Uhuru Kenyatta and which slowed the war on drugs and money laundering. The deal was in contrast to 2014 when Uhuru won the heart of the West after he destroyed drugs ship in the Indian Ocean.

But after the handshake, Uhuru relaxed on the war on drug barons for fear of antagonizing Raila whose political activities are funded by drug money and public funds looted from the counties under ODM governors.

In fact Odinga lost the admiration of America when the Akasha brothers were extradited. In their confessions, they revealed that they had been funding his campaigns through the former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his brother Abubakar Joho.

America was annoyed when Raila promised to make Joho Lands minister. The Akasha brothers had revealed that Joho has links with drug trafficking and was one of Raila’s key presidential financiers, making him the Lands boss was to enable drug barons grab public land in Mombasa

Apart from drugs link, Raila is also associated with governors linked to corruption and mega scandals in Uhuru’s regime and therefore would not make any substantial change even if he became president.

The Akashas also named Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani, a close associate to the Joho Brothers, Abubakar, Swaleh Kandereni, Billy Mahandi and Swaleh Ahmed, among other tainted tycoons who were backing Odinga presidency.
