The State decided that Railways Training Institute (RTI) be refurbished by the government in preparation for the takeover of the SGR train operations by Kenya Railways Corporation.
Last week while touring the Railways Training Institute(RTI), Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary (CS) James Macharia said that the institute would enable the government to cater to a large number of Kenyans who wanted to work in the industry.
“We have new infrastructure within RTI that will be used to upgrade the skills of both SGR and metre gauge railway staff. There is no need for an SGR if we do not create opportunities for Kenyans. We have the brick and mortar but if you do not train the people, then you cannot have a successful transfer of technology from the Chinese to Kenyans,” CS Macharia said.
The institute has been upgraded at a cost of Ksh1 billion and it now includes modern laboratories and technical workshops that will be crucial in training the people who will work on the SGR.
However, Kenyanbulletin.com has received raw details that Staff and State officials manning the upgrade of Railways Training Institute have looted and opened their own hardwares.
“There is a very huge problem here at Railways Training institute. government imeamua kurenovate hiyo shule but the rate of which building materials zinaibiwa is so high. Cement, timber, cabros, and all the building materials zinaibiwa Hadi tunashindwa the government is not aware?”
According to an insider, RTI heads have hardwares just around the institute.
“New hardware’s have been opened in South b selling the stollen building materials from RTI, so many people are building houses in the slums around south b with the materials. I think one of the workers have reported to the are police station (industrial area) and nothing have been done, the person behind all these is a guy heading the security at RTI known as Abdullah Nuru. The school management are aware. This is sad,” the source stated.
Since its launch in 2017, the SGR has been operated by a Chinese company, Afristar, that has been racially abusing Kenyans on the Kenyan soil.
Afristar the slave drivers will be exiting in May 2022 which will see KRC takeover.
