‘They want to silence blogger Cyprian Nyakundi’ – Lawyer Miguna

This afternoon it was reported that controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has been arrested for allegedly receiving money from Victoria Commercial Bank executives in exchange for expunging damaging information about the bank that the blogger had on his site.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has weighed in on the matter by stating that the blogger is being gagged.

“They want to silence Nyakundi. They already succeeded in having him banned from Twitter. Now, they want to criminalize and jail him as a way of PERMANENTLY SILENCING him. Kenyans must not believe the tissues of lies

DCI peddles to perpetuate the culture of impunity’, Miguna wrote on his Twitter page

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had reported that the blogger in the company of an associate received Ksh1 million and was to receive more when they were arrested.

The blogger is known for exposing corruption in government and this has not escaped the eyes of ‘curious and sharp’ Kenyans who have questioned the Blogger’s arrest

Other Kenyans also asked questions pertaining to the blogger’s arrest asking why the allegations of money laundering against Victoria Bank were not investigated. Most people on social media termed the arrest as entrapment against Nyakundi.

Lawyer Miguna went further to as most Kenyans are now asking, why the bank executives were not arrested for giving the bribe.

“The DCI  should also arrest the individual(s) who paid the BRIBE. It is a criminal offence to give/offer and to receive a bribe. Arresting and charging Cyprian Nyakundi but not the person who offered the bribe constitutes double standards and a miscarriage of justice”, the lawyer stated.
