Three terror suspected nabbed along Garissa – Nairobi highway

Three men suspected to members of the Al shabaab terror group were arrested on the way to Nairobi.
Police intercepted the three Kenyan men in Thika. Police say that they had intelligence that the three were planning a terror attack in the Nairobi.
The suspects who were among over 50 passengers in the city bound bus were handed over to the Anti- Police for thorough investigations.
Police have tightened operations to neutralize terror plots in the recent months. Dozens of suspects have been arrested and released due to lack of enough evidence to stand prosecution.
Many terror plots have concentrated in many parts of North Eastern where they plant explosive devices to hit locals and security forces.
According to police, the three men had fled to Somalia after committing terror crimes near Liboi border.
The suspects were identified as Mihat Daar Khalif, Ahmed Sanbul alias Faragon. They were armed with an AK47 riffle with 30 bullets belonging to Kenya police and another AK47 belonging to Somalia with 117 bullets and five magazines.
The arrest came days after police identified Abdulahi Banati as the terrorist behind the team that planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) that claimed the lives of 11 officers from the General Service Unit at Harhar camp in October.
The attack was coordinated by Banati and some terror suspects from the Dadaab refugee camp, police said. The camp has been home to many suspects and sleeper cells.
Police have traced Banati’s operations along the Kenyan – Somalia border where he has repeatedly terrorised locals since joined the terror group in 2012.
He was reported injured in 2015 but resurfaced from hiding in 2018 after he recovered. Police are appealing to any member of the public with information regarding his whereabouts to report immediately
